ANNA ZUBRZYCKA (Poland)

Anna Zubrzycki

Co-founder of Song of the Goat Theatre in 1996, actress and Course director of Manchester Metropolitan University and Song of the Goat Theatre MA in Acting techniques. Anna was bought up in Australia and moved to Poland in 1976 to be a founding member of the Gardzienice Company where she worked until 1993. Together with Grzegorz Bral she started Rokpa Poland in Lublin in 1995, running the soup kitchen there until they moved to Wroclaw in 2000. In the autumn of 2006 she traveled to Tibet to visit the Rokpa projects there.

Rokpa, the international charity organization which the Brave festival supports has 130 projects in Tibet alone. Each year Dr Akong Tulku Rinpoche, the head of Rokpa, spends 4 months visiting all its projects in Tibet – auditing them, reviewing their needs and encouraging their growth. Like a gardener tending and patiently revitalizing an abandoned, forlorn and forgotten piece of earth, once resplendent in its culture and religion, he oversees the projects with compassion and a practical vision which has ensured their success and growth for all involved. This rehabilitation of culture and human dignity has been the direct inspiration for the Brave festival and is its motto.
In the autumn of 2006 Anna Zubrzycki was fortunate enough to accompany Dr Akong Tulku Rinpoche for 7 weeks as a part of his team visiting Rokpa’s projects in Tibet.
This life-changing experience is the subject of her story and slides.
