IEGOR REZNIKOFF (France)

Early Christian Singing—contemplative concert
60 min

Appreciated around the world, Iégor Reznikoff is an anthropology of sound professor and artist fascinated with contemplative sensitivity. For many years now, Prof. Reznikoff has been discovering and bringing to live during his performances the musical tradition of European Christianity. In Wroclaw, he performs European religious songs, which have their root in Western and Eastern Christianity, and their contemplative character leads to a mystical experience.

Reznikoff, professor at l’Université de Paris X, is an expert in old music and art. He specifically is interested in traditional Christian songs. As he is quite possibly the greatest expert in the world, as well as a performer of the traditional music of the European Christianity, Reznikoff impressively combines his theoretical perspective with practice. In Reznikoff’s performances, his expert knowledge meets the sensitivity and passion of an artist inspired by European tradition from the Middle Ages. The main area of his interests includes Gregorian chant with the focus on the study of the intonation of scales and tones from the Middle Ages. Reznikoff develops his historical and musicological knowledge simultaneously with his persona as an artist and interpreter of the tradition of the Middle Ages. His passionate performances, close to real contemplation and moving prayer, made him famous around the globe.

Reznikoff is also interested in the resonance of Church buildings, especially of Roman edifices. He was the precursor of a new filed of research, i.e. anthropology of sound. His study of the correlation between the placement of drawings on the walls of caves and the timbre of the sound inside those caves is now famous.
