The film tells a story of Hutsul people dwelling mainly in high mountain villages in the Eastern Carpathians in Ukrainian territory. Due to the distance between them and civilization, as well as to their submission to the laws of nature, they live their lives in agreement with tradition. Even the young people do not want to leave their Hutsul homeland, despite obstacles of all kinds and even though they are aware that somewhere else life is easier. They speak of the magical power of the mountains which does not allow anybody to leave the place. Their destiny is shaped by two main factors: hard labour and tradition.
