Eyad has been the pride of his Arab family since his youngest days. He is the first among them to get the chance to leave his home town to attend a prestigious school in Jerusalem. Life there is not without its challenges; he has difficulty speaking Hebrew. Over time however, he makes friends with Jonathan, who is suffering from muscular dystrophy, and also meets the beautiful Jewish girl Naomi. A great passion is sparked – but will it be accepted by the lovers' families? A Palestinian and a Jew? Not in Israel. Dancing Arabs, based on the prose of Palestinian writer Sayed Kashua, combines humor with a criticism of a state where Muslims and Christians are often treated as second-class citizens. A warm and touching story of first love and friendship, and of forging one's own identity, often through sweat and tears.
Film with English subtitles.
