WORKSHOPS Brave Academy

Leading the workshop is Rama Vaidyanathan, who has more than 25 years of dance experience, is a student of the legendary performer Yamini Krishnamurthy, and is one of the most famous bharatanatyam dancers in the world. She is much inspired by tradition and at the same time she has been developing her individual style and refreshing the classical canon. She made dance a truly spiritual experience, to which she devotes herself completely and which she can perfectly transfer to the audience. She is praised by critics for her extraordinary choreographic skills and contribution to the repertoire of bharatanatyam dance. She teaches classical dance at Ganesa Natyalaya in Delhi and in numerous workshops in her country and abroad.

The workshop is available to anyone interested in Hindu dance, as well as those who have never practised bharatanatyam dance and are new to this technique. Rama Vaidyanathan will be accompanied by two musicians during the workshops, which will allow participants to grasp the idea of the rhythms used in Indian classical dance.

Bharatanatyam is an ancient style of traditional Hindu dance from the south of India existing for about three thousand years. It used to be performed by the devadasi priestesses and dancers in the temples in Thanjavur and Malabar as a kind of gift for the gods. Today it is mainly performed by one dancer or a whole group of dancers. This dance combines dynamic performance with static poses and emotional involvement. It is accompanied by music and singing which comments on the choreography.

Workshop will be run in English, with translation into Polish possible.
