Albinos, who are statistically born most often in Tanzania, need to fight for their lives by whatever means. According to local tradition, their bodies may serve as charms – to heal, bring luck, emanate magical power. White Shadow, showered with awards in Venice, Durban, Belgrade and New Horizons in Wrocław, tells about these horrific practices in an extraordinary way. Not avoiding cruelty, it fills the screen with poetry and magic. The protagonist is a countryside boy suffering from albinism (Hamisi Bazili). After the death of his father – also an albino – his mother sends him to the city in the care of his uncle to secure the boy’s safety. However, numerous dangers await him. We look at the world through his eyes, with tension and disbelief, but often also with admiration... The screening will be accompanied by a meeting with Tito D. Ntanga – the actor playing the protagonist’s father and the founder of the group Albino Revolution Cultural Troupe, which will perform at this year’s Brave Festival.
Movie in Suahili with Polsih subtitles.
