Sarah (Sivane Kretchner) runs a café in Jerusalem, Saleem (Adeeb Safadi) is her supplier, who delivers pastries from the bakery. Even though they are both married, sometimes after work they indulge in sensual pleasures in the man’s van. This secretive arrangement has no impact on the everyday life of the rich Israeli woman, nor of the poor Palestinian man. Until they travel to Bethlehem and are seen together. Suddenly an innocent love affair becomes almost a state matter, and both of them will have to pay a high price for a moment of oblivion.
Talking about forbidden feeling, The Reports on Sarah and Saleem quickly changes from a love story to a thriller, showing how easily what is private may become political. Even though it is only his second film, Palestinian director Muayad Alayan managed to depict the absurdity, and at the same time the terror of living in modern Israel. It may be experienced by those brave enough to oppose the governing rules and divisions. The film is based on real events which have been given truly cinematic energy.
Movie in Arabic, Hebrew, English with Polish subtitles.
