A young mother living in Buenos Aires struggles to survive in the big city, working as a prostitute. But in this profession too it isn’t easy to make ends meet: clients are fussy, competition is tough, and work conditions are far from comfortable. When the police check the house in which the girls receive their guests, its owner throws Alanis and her 18-month son, Dante, out on the street. A different person would give up, but the woman does not – there hasn’t been a situation yet that she couldn’t handle. The Argentinian director Anahí Berneri, the author of Encarnación and A Year Without Love, this time creates a portrait of a brave person, able to fight against all odds for herself and her child with all available means, even though life didn’t give her many. The film is far from the images in tourist brochures – it faithfully depicts the reality of Buenos Aires and tries to portray the authentic underground life of the capital of Argentina. Alanis was a sensation at the last festival in San Sebastian, at which it won the awards for the best director and the best actress. The outstanding Sofía Gala Castiglione, who played the courageous title role, showed brilliant acting – her performance is hard to forget.
Movie in Spanish with Polish and English subtitles.
